MLA: HON. FLOR MARCELINO - LOGAN

Thank You God for the Hon. Flor Marcelino as we honour her and pray for her today. Bless her richly as she goes about her duties. May you provide her with rest and strength to sustain her when she needs it. May she also have creative ways to solve challenging problems in the area of multiculturalism and literacy in the province. Thank you for Flor and be near her and her family. We pray this in Your name, amen.

Minister of multiculturalism and literacy
"I want a more vibrant Logan -- where culture brings people together, where recreation options give at-risk youth a constructive outlet for their energy, where day care and schools help families nurture children and where the presence of police gives people confidence in their neighbourhood."
  • First appointed to cabinet in 2009
  • First elected in 2007
Flor was first elected in 2007, making history as the first woman of colour elected to the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, and was re-elected as the MLA for Logan on October 4, 2011. In 2009 Flor was appointed Minister for Culture, Heritage, and Tourism, and on October 18, 2013 she was appointed by Premier Greg Selinger as Minister for Multiculturalism and Literacy.

Flor was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Canada in 1982 where she and her family have since made Winnipeg home. They first settled in the Weston community, one of the many vibrant neighbourhoods located in the Tyndall Park constituency.

Previously a small business owner and editor of The Philippine Times, she has also been an active community leader, having served with the Premier's Economic Advisory Council, Project Peacemakers, St. Stephen's-Broadway Foundation, and the Broadway Disciples United Church and its international affiliate, the Global Ministries Board. Flor was also a support staff member at Red River College for 17 years.

Flor is determined to work for and with her constituents to help build a brighter future for the residents of Logan.
