Lord, thank you for our MLA Hon Steve Ashton. We are reminded on several different occasions that emergencies arise without warning. The price extracted from those who experience disaster and emergencies, both natural and man made, are tremendous. We thank you, Lord, Steve is placed in an office to plan and prepare for these calamities and then respond appropriately when the emergencies surface. Lord, we ask you to continue to give Steve and his team the wisdom to act in our province in an appropriate manner. As we all travel down this road, may Steve see the blessing and protection of God over his household and family. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Steve was first elected to the Manitoba Legislature in 1981. He has been re-elected eight consecutive times. Before Premier Greg Selinger appointed Steve as the Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, he served as the Minister of Conservation, the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister responsible for Emergency Measures, and in November 2003 he was named Minister of Water Stewardship, a department solely committed to water issues and the first such department to be created in Canada.
Steve is also the minister responsible for Emergency Measures, and has worked hard to protect homes and communities from last year’s historic flooding.

- Received a B.A. (Hon.) in Political Studies at the University of Manitoba and a M.A. in Economics from Lakehead University
- Has lived in Thompson since 1967 – his wife Hari Dimitrakopoulou-Ashton is a college instructor
- Has two children – Niki, the MP for Churchill and Alexander, an instructor with the University College of the North in Thompson.
